Tournament Rules
All competitors must demonstrate respect and sportsmanlike conduct at all times. Any competitor who attempts or appears to attempt to injure his/her opponent will be warned or disqualified. Unsportsmanlike conduct will NOT be tolerated. Please respect the officials, volunteers and the building at all times.
Prohibited Techniques: No slamming or spiking from guard, no heel hooks, no toe holds, no foot locks, no leg locks (except straight ankle locks), no wrist locks, no knee bars, no small joint manipulation, no biting, no fish hooking, no gouging, no hair pulling, no grabbing or ripping flesh, no fingers to throat, no bicep or calf compressions, no neck cranks, no striking, no using belt to entangle or choke, no intentional throwing of opponent on head, neck or face, no stalling, no scissor takedowns, no wind pipe chokes. Out of bounds competitors will be returned to the center of the mat by the referee, in a position as close to their exiting position as possible. Ambiguous positions upon exiting will be returned to the center of the mat standing. Submissions are to be applied to induce submission, not to break a joint or cause lasting injury. It is competitor’s responsibility to tap before injury occurs.
Apparel and Hygiene Requirements: Competitors must be clothed in FULL GI (top, bottom, and belt). Gi must be free from anything that could cause injury (buttons, zippers, straps, buckles). No shoes or jewelry. Gi must not be cut, torn, or ripped. Toenails and fingernails must be trimmed. Personal hygiene (cleanliness and odor-free) must be observed by all competitors. Shoes MUST be worn in bathrooms!
Weigh-ins: Weigh-ins will take place from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM the morning of the tournament. Weigh-ins are done with competitor in FULL GI. If weight recorded during weigh-ins differs from weight class on the registration form, competitor will be moved into the weight class corresponding to weigh-in result, no exceptions.
Time Limits: 4 minutes for ages 12 and under, 5 minutes for ages 13-17
Divisions will be combined, canceled, or changed as necessary to provide the best competition possible.
